Richmond County alters Oct. 11 football schedule due to Helene

Richmond County School System athletic events will resume this Friday, Oct. 11, but in a limited capacity.

Due to ongoing curfew restrictions and some road hazards caused by street light outages, athletic events in our school system will start early and limit the number of spectators for the safety of our students, staff, and attendees, according to a news release. Athletic events hosted outside the school system will also observe an altered schedule.

The following high school football games in our school system will have limited public access:

·        Laney High School at Butler High School, 5 p.m.

·        Westside High School at Cross Creek High School, 5 p.m.

Home games will only be open to student participants, staff and four immediate family members. Student participants, including athletes, cheerleaders and band members will each receive their tickets in advance from their respective schools. Gofan online ticketing will not be available for home athletic events this week.

Athletic events outside the school system in neighboring counties are open to the public, and tickets can be purchased through host high schools. The following athletic events will be hosted in neighboring counties:

·        T.W. Josey High School at Burke County High School, 6 p.m. (location change)

·        Hephzibah High School at Baldwin High School, 6:30 p.m.

·        Academy of Richmond County (ARC) at West Laurens High School, 6:30 p.m.

·        Glenn Hills High School at Thomson High School, 7 p.m.
