Pickens County ends Harlem’s bid for third straight baseball title

HARLEM – After winning back-to-back state titles the last two seasons, Harlem baseball’s 2024-25 season
ended Wednesday after dropping a doubleheader to Pickens County in the Elite Eight of Georgia High School AAA Baseball State Playoffs at Jimmie Lewis Field.

The Bulldogs scored two early runs in the first game, but Pickens County battled back and won by a
score of 8-3.

Game Two featured two great pitchers on the mound as Harlem Senior Will Holder and Pickens
County Junior AJ Rice were the starters.

Holder is committed to play at Georgia Southern University next year, while Rice is committed to play at Auburn University after his senior year.

Rice held the Bulldogs scoreless most of the second game, and Pickens County eliminated Harlem by
winning 5-1.

This marks the Bulldogs’ first elimination in the playoffs since 2022 when they were defeated by
North Hall. Harlem has a record of 107-5 over the last three seasons.
