In pictures: Patriotic pooches parade in Aiken

AIKEN — More than 100 patriotic pooches took part in a festive Patriotic Paw Parade down Laurens Street July 1 kicking off the holiday events.

Pups and their owners decked out in their red, white and blue for the event sponsored by Downtown Dog.

Here are a few other events scheduled to mark Independence Day.

Signers Monument Ceremony: 9 a.m., July 4, Signers Monument, at Monument and Greene Streets in Augusta. Ceremony honoring three Georgia signers of the Declaration of Independence – George Walton, Lyman Hall and Button Gwinnett. Walton and Hall are buried beneath the 50-foot obelisk.

Historic Meadow Garden: The home of George Walton, one of three Georgia Signers of the Declaration of Independence, will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 4.

Living History Park: Gates open at 10 a.m., July 4, Living History Park, North Augusta. Recitation of excerpts from the Declaration of Independence, costumes, parade, refreshments.

City of Augusta Celebration: 5 p.m. Augusta Common. Kid’s Zone, Food trucks, vendors and live entertainment. Fireworks 9:15 pm.

BOOM! in the Park: 5 p.m. July 4, Evans Towne Center Park. Live music by the Kevin Mack Band and Whiskey Run, food trucks and fireworks.

Augusta GreenJackets: 4:30 p.m. July 4. SRP Park. Independence Day MEGA Fireworks Celebration after the GreenJackets host the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The GreenJackets will wear their Stars and Striped themed jerseys that will be auctioned off to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Augusta.
