Construction in downtown Augusta is forcing another event to relocate for this year.
PACELINE is gearing up for its signature annual event PaceDay on Sunday, Oct. 4, and is relocating the event to the Augusta University Health Sciences Lawn, located on the Health Sciences Quad in front of the J. Harold Harrison, MD Education Commons on Laney Walker Boulevard. The commons serves as a central green space for campus events, student gatherings and outdoor activities.
In its sixth year, teams representing prestigious local businesses and community organizations will gather to walk / run / ride to fuel innovative cancer research at the Georgia Cancer Center. Since its inaugural event in 2019, PACELINE has raised $2.5M in all-time funds for innovative cancer research at the Georgia Cancer Center, according to a news release.
“PACELINE is pleased to announce that it has a newly revised location for PaceDay. After extensive research, we believe the Augusta University Health Sciences Campus (Lawn) offers a convenient, safe and beautiful venue to host all our participation options – 5K Run / Walk as well as our three bike routes. With parking on-site and one location for all activities, start & finish, we believe that our participants & volunteers can be even better accommodated than before,” said Martyn Jones, PACELINE president.
The PACELINE community of supporters has already funded nearly 40 innovative cancer research grants, from cancer prevention to advancing treatments for multiple types of cancer, with some grants focusing specifically on fighting cancer within our own community. This research ‘pipeline’ is producing results for the Georgia Cancer Center with seven of the PACELINE funded projects attracting $12.5 million in prestigious NIH funding equating to more than $30 million in economic impact for the Augusta area, the release continued.
