The Augusta Walk to End Lupus Now is scheduled for Saturday, May 17.
Lupus is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes pain and inflammation.
“Lupus affects different people in different ways. Most people with lupus have skin problems, like rashes or sores. Sometimes lupus affects only the skin, and sometimes it affects other parts of the body, too,” according to the Lupus Foundation of America website.
Lupus can damage to organs such as the kidneys and the heart as well.
Lupus can cause lupus nephritis. With the disease, inflammation in the kidneys can lead to waste build-up in the blood and extra water build-up in the body.
Lupus also increases the risk of heart disease, including coronary artery disease, which occurs when material builds up in the arteries and decreases blood flow to the heart.
The walk will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Glenn Hills High School. To learn more, go here.
