There’s never a shortage of visual arts’ happenings around the Augusta area, and here are a few of the offerings currently available.
A new exhibit opens at Sacred Heart Cultural Center May 13 featuring four artists – Rebecca Congleton, Kelley Igo, Jacki Mayo Van Dyke and Cameron Young.
It’s a new experience for Congleton, a photographer who specializes in street photography capturing the daily and mundane through an artistic lens.
“I’m honestly pinching myself a little bit still. I feel very fortunate to have this door open to me. The other three artists are all extremely talented, with fun, colorful, unique work. I think it’s going to be a fabulous exhibit, and I hope to meet lots of new people on Tuesday at the reception. I’ve chosen photos I hope will make people feel something, whether it’s intrigue or joy or silliness. I want viewers to feel!” said Congleton in a message.
The opening reception will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart.
A shoutout to Staci Swider, whose mixed-media piece “The Seedkeepers” won Best in Show at the South Carolina Chapter of the National Association of Women Artists’ annual exhibit at Brookgreen Garden’s Rosen Gallery in Murrells Inlet.
I’m working on a feature about Staci that should run by the weekend. Stay tuned.

An open house is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. May 15.
