Lobster rolls into Augusta area March 12

Lobster rolls are heading to Augusta March 12.

A Cousins Maine Lobster food truck will be at Lowe’s Home Improvement, 224 Bobby Jones Expressway, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. with its wild-caught Maine lobster delicacies such as Maine rolls with chilled lobster, Connecticut rolls with warm lobster served with butter and lemon and lobster grilled cheese. There’s also a lobster quesadilla and classic Maine whoopie pies for dessert.

“Our corporate team is touring Georgia and South Carolina,” said Angela Coppler, Cousins’ Head of Development.

That tour is stopping at other Lowe’s in South Carolina cities such as Sumter on Thursday, Lexington on Friday, Columbia on Saturday and Florence on Sunday,

Founded by cousins Jim Tselikis and Sabin Lomac, who launched their first food truck in Los Angeles with $20,000 in April 2012, Cousins Maine Lobster got a big break after the duo appeared on “Shark Tank” and partnered with real estate mogul and shark, Barbara Corcoran. By 2016, that $20,000 investment had resulted in $20 million in sales.

Cousins Maine Lobster has since franchised and expanded its footprint via food trucks, food halls and brick & mortar restaurants across the U.S., according to the Cousins’ website.

Cousins Maine Lobster’s only Georgia presence is in Atlanta, but Coppler said they feel the Augusta market is ripe for their business model, pointing to other seafood chains that have a presence here.

She said they are hopeful not only to whet Augustans’ appetites for lobster but to find someone interested in bringing a franchise to the area.
