April 25 is Independent Bookstore Day as well as International Local Yarn Store Day, and Augusta’s downtown bookstore and yarn store have a full day of activities and sales planned.
The Book Tavern, 978 Broad St, will participate in the 13th annual Independent Bookstore Day.
The bookstore, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in October, will have exclusive items for sale and as giveaways, from tote bags to signed books and Blackwing pencils. Local vendors will sell treats, artist Jacki Mayo will have a pop up, and children can participate in games such as bookstore bingo.
“We have been celebrating Independent Bookstore Day for over a decade now and love this opportunity to magnify our mission of being a space where literature and community meet. From local pop-ups to new merch launches and giveaways, you won’t want to miss out on the biggest bookstore party of the year,” said David Hutchison, The Book Tavern owner, in a news release.
The Book Tavern, which offers new, used and rare books, opened its first location in Downtown Augusta on Eighth Street moving to Broad Street less than a year later.

“Eight years of growth saw us bursting at the seams and we were fortunate enough to find space across from our friends, The New Moon Cafe, in the JB Whites Building. In 2022, it happened again, and we moved down the block to our current location next to Nacho Mama’s,” the release said.
Three Crows Fiber joined the downtown business scene in August 2024 on James Brown Boulevard and moved to 1026 Broad St. in September 2025.
Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, there will be an array of activities related to International Local Yarn Store Day.
Knitters and crocheters can test their speed. Or bring in a completed fiber project to be voted on and find out which one is the favorite. Bring in a square or sample of work for a downtown yarn-bombing project.
Adella Colvin, an internationally known fiber artist, will also make an appearance.
While downtown, look for the Tommy Robot at 10 Broad Street businesses as part of Bots on Broad. Read more here.
