Tuesday’s Music Live celebrates its 38th anniversary of bringing noon day concerts to downtown Augusta as it opens its season Sept. 22 with the Borisevich Duo at noon at Saint Paul’s Church.
“Our audiences remain strong,” said Keith Shafer, who founded the program in 1988. “We have hundreds of people coming to every concert.”
The Tuesday concert season runs September to March with performances in a variety of genres from jazz to classical to blues, and it recently received a huge boost as Lorinda Fournier provided a major gift that will fund the series in perpetuity.
“We will still have sponsors, but her endowment will provide a floor,” he said.
Each season provides a mix of returning favorites with some new voices; this year also features some local performers.
The season opener is Borisevich Duo, which features Nikita Borisevich on violin and Margarita Loukachkina on piano,’
Oct. 6’s concert will showcase Anita Graef on cello and Nathan Canfield on piano, followed by Eduardo Bentancourt on harp on Oct. 20.
Bentancourt wowed audiences on a previous visit.
“People have been begging to have him back,” he said.
On Nov. 3, the Bloom Funkhouser Duo will present a Miles Davis Celebration
The duo is comprised of flutist Peter H. Bloom and pianist John Funkhouser who have performed together for 30 years.
The Savannah River Brass will play on Nov. 17.
“They are a local brass group. They are really good. We like to have them whenever we can,” he said.
Another crowd favorite is the John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School’s chorale on Dec. 1.
Augusta University music professors Martin David Jones and Clara Park will perform on the piano on Jan. 12, 2027.
The Ben Rosenblum Trio will be on Jan. 26, with award-winning New York City jazz pianists Ben Rosenblum accompanied by two other musicians.
Pianist Thomas Pandolfi, who will be featured with the Augusta Symphony on Nov. 6, will return to Augusta on Feb. 9 for Tuesday’s Music Live.
Pandolfi is a Steinway Artist, who has established himself as one of America’s distinguished concert pianists, performing to acclaim at some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Kiev Opera House, Bucharest’s Romanian Athenaeum and London’s Cadogan Hall, according to his website.
The Duo Formosa featuring Catherine Lan on piano and Huifang Chen on violin will be in concert Feb. 23.
The Svyati Duo featuring Julian Collings on organ and Rebecca Hepplewhite on cello will be March 9.
And rounding out the season will be Wayne Hoey Jazz on March 23.
All concerts begin at noon and are at Saint Paul’s at 605 Reynolds Street.
Shafer said parking is not a problem as people may use the Augusta Museum of History parking lot to attend the concerts.
