Black Cat Picture Show returns for 12th year

The 12th Annual Black Cat Picture Show heads to Le Chat Noir beginning Thursday.

“Artists from all over the world have submitted some amazing pieces to be screened right here at our downtown theatre,” according to the Facebook event post.

The annual film festival includes four days of film screenings, a filmmakers’ reception, a Sunday brunch and an awards ceremony. And the purchase of a festival pass will include admission to all of those.

“The Black Cat Picture Show is the only international adjudicated film festival in the CSRA! We provide a platform for independent film artists to exhibit their work. Le Chat Noir theatre provides an intimate setting that facilitates the exchange of ideas in order to cultivate artistic growth,” according to the event page.

A.B. Osborne, the Director of the Animation Program and an Associate Professor of Animation at Augusta University, is the writer and director of the animated film “Iridescent”, which will be screened at 11 a.m. Sunday.

Films start beginning at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Each year, the festival partners with A24 to present one of their offerings. “The Invite” will be featured at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Directed by Olivia Wilde, “The Invite” stars Seth Rogen, Wilde,  Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton.

“Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places. Have they reignited the spark or lit the match that burns it all down?” is the synopsis on the A24 website.

While films come from all over the world, one has a local tie.

A.B. Osborne, the Director of the Animation Program and an Associate Professor of Animation at Augusta University, is the writer and director of the animated film “Iridescent”, which will be screened at 11 a.m. Sunday.

The movie is about Tess, a space explorer, who “discovers a wondrous new world called Iridescent. As she explores the rich ecosystems of this new planet, she discovers a vibrant new land full of fantastical creatures. Tess reflects on the planet she left behind – a beautiful homeland that was polluted and abandoned.”
