The Hub for Community Innovation had shades of Tatooine or the Death Star on May 7 as people celebrated the annual May the 4th Be With You event.

While not on the date in the title, the Star Wars-themed event coincided with the weekly Augusta Locally Grown farmers’ market for maximum attendance, according to Corey Rogers, one of the event organizers.

The event grew out of a Star Wars Reads Day, an annual fall event at the Augusta-Richmond County Library’s headquarters branch started about 13 years ago and growing to nearly 400 attendees before COVID hit, Rogers said.

When the Hub opened, Rogers felt it would be the perfect location and could keep the literacy theme. The Hub is home to the Paulette Harris Literary Center. During the event, there were book giveaways and the Augusta Richmond County Library had a booth.

In addition, there were fun activities including a costume parade and trivia event. Artists sold Star Wars-themed paintings, and children decorated themed cookies

“It’s a way to honor literacy and enmesh it with our Geekdom, enmesh it with our love of ‘Star Wars,'” he said.
