Food Lion celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week at McCormick High School

This week, Food Lion is celebrating educators and helping bring moments of care to local schools across its communities.

On May 6, 2026, the grocery retailer marked Teacher Appreciation Week with a special “Carts of Kindness” surprise at McCormick High School in McCormick, South Carolina supported by Food Lion Feeds, the company’s hunger-relief platform.

“Teachers and school staff play an essential role in the lives of students and families, often going above and beyond to provide care, encouragement and support both inside and outside the classroom,” said Travena Galloway, Customer Service Manager, Food Lion, in a news release from Food Lion. “At Food Lion, we’re proud to recognize their dedication and help support the important work they do to strengthen their school and community every day.”

During the event, Food Lion associates delivered a Food Lion To Go Pickup and/or Home Delivery cart filled with healthy snacks and drinks for teachers, staff and students. Educators were recognized with Pantry Pack meal kits featuring Food Lion brand ingredients and a curated recipe, along with personalized thank-you notes, coupons and gift cards as a gesture of appreciation for their dedication to supporting students and families. In addition, Food Lion associates helped replenish the school’s pantry with shelf-stable Food Lion brand products to support students beyond the school day.

“I sincerely mean, I’ve been in the district for 30 years and I’ve never seen anyone do this,” said Gena Wideman, McCormick High School principal. “It took everything in my power not to tell anyone. You don’t know how special this is for McCormick. Thank you.”

This celebration is one of six large-scale surprise Carts of Kindness events taking place this week across Food Lion’s 10-state operating area. In addition, the omnichannel grocery retailer will help provide special delights to educators at more than 170 schools across the towns and cities it serves.
