Lakeside student named Region 7 Star

Jerry Fan of Lakeside High School is the 2025 PAGE STAR Student Region Winner for Region 7.

Jerry selected Dr. John Cato, as his STAR teacher. This is Cato’s 12th year being selected by a STAR student from Lakeside High School, according to a news release from the Columbia County School District.

The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, in its 67th year, is sponsored,
administered and promoted by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE).

Since its creation in 1958, the STAR program has honored over 30,000 students and the
teachers selected as the most influential to their academic achievement. To obtain the 2025
STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the
SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.

STAR begins each year in participating high schools throughout Georgia with a STAR Student
being named and choosing a STAR Teacher to share in this recognition. Each school’s STAR
students and teachers in Columbia County were honored with a special reception hosted by the
Harlem Woman’s Club.

Jerry was named the County winner and as Region 7 winner, will now go on to compete for the honor of being named State PAGE STAR Student. STAR Teachers continue with their STAR Students at every level of the program.
