Video cooks up award for Norris Elementary School

Georgia Superintendent of Schools Richard Woods visited Norris Elementary in Thomson on March 12 to recognize the school and McDuffie County School System’s winning entry in the state-wide Cooking Up Academics Family Engagement Month Video Contest.

Students who starred in the instructional cooking show about stuffed bell peppers received aprons, and Norris Elementary Principal Shantell Crockett accepted the trophy that will be displayed near the front entrance of the school.

 The video titled, “A Visit with Bella Bell-Pepper and Friends,” was a cooperative effort between school and system staff, students and parents, and is aimed at getting everyone learning in the kitchen together.

Among the lessons in the cooking demonstration were the life cycle of a plant and math concept such as weights and measurements,
