Ten Richmond County high schools have been recognized as 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools

Ten Richmond County high schools have been recognized as 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools by the Georgia Department of Education. 

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our students, teachers, and administrators in preparing students for college and careers,” said Malinda Cobb, interim superintendent of schools, in a news release. “By increasing access to AP courses, we’re ensuring our students are challenged academically and have the opportunity to earn college credit before graduation.” 

The designation is based on performance in 2024 AP courses and exams and RCSS schools earned distinction in multiple categories: 

AP STEM Achievement School – At least 50% of AP STEM exams score 3 or higher: 

  • John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School 

AP STEM Schools – High number of AP exams in science, technology, engineering, and math: 

  • A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School 
  • Academy of Richmond County 
  • Cross Creek Comprehensive High School 
  • John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School 
  • Westside Comprehensive High School 

AP Challenge Schools – Schools with fewer than 900 students offering AP courses in core subjects: 

  • A.R. Johnson Health Science and Engineering Magnet School 
  • Glenn Hills High School 
  • John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School 
  • Lucy C. Laney Comprehensive High School 

AP Expansion Schools – Increased AP course offerings and participation: 

  • Academy of Richmond County 
  • George P. Butler Comprehensive High School 
  • Glenn Hills Comprehensive High School 
  • Hephzibah Comprehensive High School 
  • Richmond County Technical Career Magnet School 
  • Westside Comprehensive High School 

AP Access and Support School – At least 30% of AP exams taken by students from underrepresented backgrounds: 

  • John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School 

AP School of Distinction – At least 20% of students take AP exams, with 50% earning scores of 3 or higher: 

  • John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School 

Richmond County schools have been recognized on the AP Honor Schools list for 11 consecutive years, underscoring the district’s commitment to academic excellence and college readiness. ‘
