Take Kids Fishing Day set for June 21

The Third Annual Augusta Building Trades Take Kids Fishing Day, a free youth fishing event at the Modoc Boat Ramp on Lake Thurmond, will be Saturday, June 21.

Families and young fishing enthusiasts and beginners alike will have the chance to learn from skilled mentors, reel in some great catches and enjoy a memorable day on the water from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., according to a news release.

“This is a great opportunity for kids to connect with nature, build confidence, and create lasting memories at no cost—registered youths receive fishing poles to keep,” the news release said.

The event provides an opportunity for children from various backgrounds and all physical abilities to enjoy the sport of fishing while learning about the importance of conservation. Union volunteers will provide kids and their parents with instruction and assistance, and all registered youths will receive a free fishing rod and reel.

Organized by the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance, Augusta, GA Building & Construction Trades Council, and US Army Corps of Engineers Savannah District, the event is a part of a series of free, community-based youth outreach activities organized under the USA’s flagship conservation program, Work Boots on the Ground. Open to the public but limited to the first 150 youths to register. For more information, go here.

Studies show that outdoor activities like fishing spark curiosity in kids, helping them develop a lasting appreciation for nature and conservation. That’s why we’re excited for this year’s event, where young anglers will learn the ropes from experienced union members—creating lifelong memories,” said the news release.
