Tap dancer and singer Solomon Jaye will perform Saturday, Aug. 8, as part of Augusta Amusements’ inaugural season at the Kroc Center.
Audiences might remember Jaye from December 2024 when he performed wit the Edge Effect’s holiday concert at the Hardin Auditorium, according to Mike Deas of Augusta Amusements.
“The Edge Effect had been here one time before and one of the guys who was here the first time couldn’t make it, but Solomon was the fill-in person…He did some solo tap and the people loved it,” said Deas.
This time around he’s bringing his own show Tap Into Soul, which “offers an exciting take on timeless music—moving seamlessly from James Brown, Al Green, and Stevie Wonder to Earth, Wind & Fire, Bruno Mars, and Ed Sheeran—brought to life through electrifying footwork, live musicianship, and dynamic stage presence,” according to Jaye’s website.
The Houston native has performed with “GRAMMY-winning and chart-topping artists including Pentatonix, Jessie J, Robin Thicke, MKTO, Mindi Abair, and Broadway stars Shoshana Bean and Katharine McPhee. Whether on major festival stages, in theaters, or aboard luxury cruise lines, he consistently delivers an engaging, cross-generational entertainment experience,” his website continued.
After more than a decade at the Hardin Auditorium in Evans, Augusta Amusements has a couple of performances scheduled thus far.
“The Kroc Center is at the center of the CSRA. For Aiken people who want to come it’s closer, and for Waynesboro, Evans and North Augusta it’s all really close,” he said.
This first concert will give long-time patrons the opportunity to get a feel for the new theater as well as find out what type of entertainment would be good to bring into the center.
In Augusta Amusements’ transition to what Deas said could become the organization’s new home, he doesn’t have a full season planned although other concerts are in the works.
The crowd favorite Celtic Angels will return for their Christmas show in December. They’ve been performing in the area for about eight years.
“They do change it up every year,” he said, but they do keep parts that have become audience favorites.
