Three restored WWII-era aircraft scheduled at Augusta Regional Airport on Sept. 12 to provide a day of rides and aviation fans the experience of a lifetime has been postponed
The Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia in Peachtree City plans to visit with its P-51 Mustang and two military trainers, the LT-6 Mosquito and a T-34 as part of the statewide Georgia Barnstorming Tour, according to a news release from CAF.
“We’re happy to bring these historic aircraft to Augusta,” said Airbase Leader Mark Richards. “This tour is offering amazing experiences to people across the state. It helps fulfill our mission of honoring the Greatest Generation who flew these warbirds, and it helps enable school-age children to connect with the WWII history these planes represent. We also hope this visit to
Augusta will encourage more young people to consider careers in aviation.”
CAF Airbase Georgia, founded in 1987, is one of the largest units of the Commemorative Air Force (CAF). The group maintains and flies seven vintage military aircraft including a P-51 Mustang, an FG-1D Corsair, an SBD Dauntless and a P-63A Kingcobra.
The barnstorming tour will have additional stops in Atlanta, Macon, Athens and Gainesville, wrapping up at home in Peachtree City. Rides can be scheduled in advance at www:airbasegeorgia.org.
The rain forecasted for Saturday prompted the postponement according to an email from a CAF representative. The new date will be Sept. 26.
