Nursing sorority marks its Founders Day

Phi Chi Chapter, Incorporated of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated® joined other chapters to celebrat its Founders Day on Oct. 16.

“The day serves as a reminder of the beginning of this sorority when a courageous registered nurse was unable to join another nursing group due to her race decided to launch out to organize one. She reached
out to 11 other registered nurses and this sorority became a reality on Oct. 16, 1932, and
has been going strong ever since with the Motto: Service for Humanity,” according to a news release.

Sheila Hall

During a closed ceremony, members, wearing their official color of green and yellow, paid homage to the organization’s founders as well as honored the members who started the local chapter in May 1977. The ceremony was a time to reflect on the history of the sorority and chapter as well as its purpose. Also, it was a time to rekindle friendship, recognize charter members and light a candle in remembrance of the deceased members while thanking God for his grace and mercy, the release continued.
