Area musicians set for Jag Jam Saturday

An inaugural music and arts festival at Augusta University’s Maxwell Theatre brings together some of the area’s best bands and visual artists.

“I wanted to highlight the music and art scene for the students who are here. They’re not familiar with the local stuff, and it gives them a chance to see them,” said Coco Rubio, patron services coordinator at the Maxwell.

The Jag Jam will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 19, but it’s not just for AU students, said Rubio who hopes the community will turn out as well.

Performers include AE the Cool, Alto Pablo, Brandy Douglas’ Stella Blue, Ethan Stallings Group,  ForceGhost, Nefertiti, Shaun Piazzaa Band, Stuck In The Bar, Tara Scheyer & The Mud Puppy Band, Will McCranie & The 706, L4 Jazz & Friends.

Rubio said many of the performers were excited to play the Maxwell because while they’ve played other venues around town, they have not yet played the AU theater.

“I think we have a good mix of bands, a good cross section of the local scene. It’s exciting,” he said.

The festival will also highlight some of the recent upgrades to the theater including new lights and sound.

In addition to the musicians, area artists including Jay Jacobs and members of ArtZilla will paint live. And works by Augusta University art students will be on display.

DJs and a food truck to round out the festival.

Admission is $5 and free to Augusta University students and children 10 and younger.
