Nursing organization celebrates 47th anniversary of charter

Phi Chi Chapter, Inc. of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. celebrated its 47th Chartering Anniversary on June 1, 2024, at the Pinnacle Club with 35 members, including three charter members, plus eight guests.

The event paid homage to the charter members as well as recognizing six sorors and one committee for their dutiful service for the chapter as well as the community, according to a news release from the group’s PR chairwoman, Sarah Glover.

Catrina Crawford was recognized as Nurse of the Year; Victoria Burt, Unsung Hero of the Year; Linda Scott, Humanitarian of the Year; Lorraine Stephens, chapter president, Spotlight of the Quarter; Alfrieda Bing and Hermecender Walton-Williams, Neophyte Excellence Awards, and the Membership Selection Intake Committee as Committee of the Year.

“This is an annual event that is held to remind the members of the humbling beginning on May21, 1977, when Phi Chi Chapter began with 34 courageous nurses who had the vision to introduce this chapter to the CSRA. The mission included to elevate the plane of nursing and increase interest in the nursing profession. This chapter has increased in numbers and service tremendously ever since,” the new release said.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Incorporated is a Professional Nursing Sorority that began in 1932 in Washington, D.C. Chapters are located throughout the United States to include St. Thomas, Virgin Island. Its motto is “Service for Humanity,” and its colors are green and yellow. The mascot is the turtle.
