A wall at the Golden Harvest Food Bank’s urban garden at the Master’s Table Soup Kitchen is getting a facelift thanks to a team of artists.
Jon Paschal and AC Daniel came up with the concept which incorporates the natural aspects of the urban garden leading into Augusta’s city scape.
The project began in the spring when Daniel’s students from Episcopal Day School helped map it out and start priming the walls. Over the past few weeks, the two artists have enlisted more than a dozen others to help bring the vision to life.
“We didn’t anticipate it becoming such a community effort. That’s been the cool part,” Daniel said.
He’s gotten to know some of his fellow creatives as well as learn about the work of the soup kitchen which feeds more than 200 people every day from 11 a.m. to noon at 702 Fenwick St.
Lillie DeLecuona picked up a brush on Aug. 4 because her friend asked.
“I’ve never done a mural,” she said. “I’ve painted, but this is a different process.”
Daniel said they plan to have the mural complete by Aug. 15.The mural is visible to motorists on the building’s Seventh Street side.
