EDGEFIELD, S.C. – Main Street Players will celebrate America’s 250th birthday with “We the People, an American Cabaret”, an event blending beloved music, historic words and local talent Nov. 6–8.
The production will feature songs by John Denver, Irving Berlin, Woody Guthrie, Dolly Parton and other American artists, alongside readings from the Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Gettysburg Address, as well as works by American poets and historical figures, according to a news release.
“My vision was to build this around America as a shared home: its founding ideals, its landscapes, the people, and those who have served it,” said Jamie Turner, who is directing and performing in the cabaret. “That gives us a clear emotional journey while keeping the production free of party politics.”

Joining Turner onstage are Abigail Turner, Sam Crouch, Ruth Bledsoe, Abby and Juli Davis, Alexia and Alena Crowley, Dustin Turner, Cynthia Mottel, Madison Nelson and Whitney McDonald.
Main Street Players also invites local artists to submit artwork for display during the cabaret. Works in any medium reflecting America’s founding ideals, landscapes, people or those who have served the nation are welcome. Artists interested in lending their work can email mainstreetedgefield@gmail.com.
Scheduled for the weekend before Veterans Day, performances are at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6 and 7 and 3 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Joanne T. Rainsford Discovery Center, 405 Main St., Edgefield. Tickets are $20 and available at EdgefieldTheatre.com.
