Tara Scheyer’s summer break from teaching includes more teaching, but of a different group of students

Scheyer, who teaches music at Episcopal Day School as well as private lessons, spends June and July teaching ukulele to senior adults through the Jessye Norman School of the Arts and AARP Ukuseniors ukulele class. They were scheduled to finish their classes on July 8 and end with a recital July 15, but an extra week of instruction was added with the recital moved to 4 p.m. July 22 instead.

While Scheyer enjoys teaching her youngest students, she said that teaching the adults is a highlight of her week.

“I look so forward to this hour,” she told the group July 8. “You are so much fun.”

The recital will consist of 10 songs. On Wednesday, they went through a possible set list which included “Love Me Do,” “Lean on Me,” and “I’ll Fly Away.”
