Friendsgiving pairs Southern rock with a good cause

Ryan Abel loves bringing his talented friends together for a cause, and on Wednesday, Nov. 27, they will join two other bands for a night of Southern rock, which will also raise money for Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Ryan Abel and Friends will join Swamp Music – A Tribute to Skynyrd and Derrick Dove and The Peacekeepers for Friendsgiving at the Miller Theater.

“It’s a good alignment.  I love Southern rock ‘n’ roll. Goin’ South is one of my avenues to that music. It’s close to my heart and my culture and how I’ve grown up. Being paired with a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band made sense to me,” Abel said.

His group will bring songs by Drive-By Truckers, The Black Crowes and the Allman Brothers and similar bands, he said.

Abel, who has put together events that benefit organizations, such as the Junior League of Augusta, also likes that Friendsgiving has a charitable element as well with $2 from each ticket going to the Golden Harvest Food Bank.

In addition to Ryan Abel and Friends, Derrick Dove and The Peacekeepers, a “Southern Fried Blues Rock” band.

The group released its first album in 2018, reaching No. 5 on the iTunes blues charts. Its “Rough Time” album was released in October 2023, hitting No. 1 on the blues charts in the United States and Spain.

“Everybody has a rough time. Everybody has their own struggles, and sometimes it’s just not that easy to get over ‘em. The past few years have been rough. My father’s death, COVID and everything going on in the world right now. I was struggling for a long time and writing this new album helped me get thru it,” said Derrick Dove on the group’s website.

Swamp Music – A Tribute to Skynyrd is a rock band based in Tifton, Georgia, and just like the name, the band brings the best of the music of Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Tickets start at $29 and are available here.
