Family Earth and Sky Night will be April 25

The Ruth Patrick Science Education Center (RPSEC) at University of South Carolina Aiken will host the Family Earth & Sky Night from 6:30-10:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

This annual event celebrates both Earth Day and International Astronomy Day with engaging, hands-on experiences for all ages, according to a news release.

Presented in partnership with the DuPont Planetarium and the Astronomy Club of Augusta, the event will feature interactive science activities, live animal exhibits, planetarium programs and guided night-sky observation.

From 6 to 8:30 p.m., guests can explore a wide variety of free interactive stations focused on Earth and space science. Many activities will include take-home materials, allowing participants to continue the learning experience beyond the event. Attendees can also enjoy live animal exhibits featuring snakes, turtles, alligators and owls.

From 8:30 – 10:30 p.m., members of the Astronomy Club of Augusta will guide guests through an evening of free sky-watching on the RPSEC lawn. Using the naked eye, binoculars, and telescopes, attendees will have the opportunity to observe the Moon, planets and stars. Club members will have multiple telescopes available, including access to the Bechtel Telescope in the RPSEC Observatory. 

Planetarium shows will be on the hour from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Regular rates will apply

Shows include In My Backyard at 6:30 p.m.; Backyard Wilderness at 7:30 p.m.; Two Small Pieces of Glass at 8:30 p.m.; and Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon at 9:30 p.m.
