CSRA Brick Con returns Sept. 28-29 to Columbia County Library

Michael Dominy simply wanted to borrow a couple of rooms at the Columbia County Library on a Saturday to set up a LEGO® display a couple of years ago.

“They were extremely happy to do this. Not only did they lend us the rooms down a small hallway, they gave us the lobby and let a vendor set up in the café area. They also decided to open the theater and play two LEGO® movies all day. We had to organize all of this in a six-week period and then that Saturday, we had almost 5,000 visitors come through which blew away all our expectations,” wrote Dominy, a member of the SC Bricks LUG (LEGO® User Group). in an email.

Last year’s event drew even more crowds, and the Third Annual CSRA Brick Con will be at the Columbia County Library Sept. 28 and 29.

The event will include a variety of LEGO® displays, plus LEGO® movies playing in the theater all day on both days with trivia in between, LEGO® vendors and food truck. A canned food drive will benefit Columbia County Cares.

Many of the displays are “My Own Creation. These are not sets but those created out of your imagination. You will see a variety of themes throughout the displays as well as true to life buildings. Marvel, DC, Disney, Star Wars, Space among a variety of others will be around to see. Some art
created in LEGO® will be displayed from a few artists too,” Dominy wrote.

Artists come from across Georgia and South Carolina. The youngest is 8 years old.

The SC Bricks LUG (LEGO® User Group) motto is “Design, Inspire, Create,” according to Dominy.

“That is what these shows are about and why we put them on. We design our builds to inspire not just each member, but others as well. Then the imagination kicks in and you go out and create your own,” he wrote.

Admission to the event is free. While no ticket is required, registration is requested to give organizers an idea of how many people plan to attend.
