The Augusta Choral Society has announced its 2026-2027 concert season, which opens Oct. 17.
Following the Society’s historic 75th anniversary season last year, the upcoming calendar features a wide range of composers from Henry Purcell, George Frideric Handel and JS Bach to contemporary luminaries including John Rutter and Morten Lauridsen.
“We have crafted an exciting season that bridges generations, styles and countries, offering our audiences a thrilling musical journey,” said Dr. Marcel Ramalho, ACS Artistic Director and Conductor. “We will present rarely performed pieces, such as Conrad Susa’s ‘Three Mystical Carols’ in December, along with works by brilliant women composers such as Marianna Martines’ ‘Dixit Dominus’ in October and Amy Beach’s ‘Festival Jubilate’ in March. We look forward to sharing all these choral masterworks with our community.”
The opening concert on Oct. 17 will feature JS Bach’s much-loved Cantata No. 140, “Wachet Auf” (Sleepers, Awake!).
The Dec. 12 concert includes the perennial pillar of the holidays, the Christmas portion of Handel’s “Messiah,” along with other seasonal selections.
For the spring concert on March 6, 2027, the chorus will perform John Rutter’s touching “Requiem.”
The final concert of the season is planned for May, just prior to Memorial Day. The performance will include Randall Thompson’s stirring work, “Alleluia.” The date, location and full repertoire will be announced later in the season.
The Augusta Choral Society performs at Sacred Heart Cultural Center and Saint Paul’s Church, both in downtown Augusta.
