Collins receives Georgia Farm Bureau award

MACON, Ga. – Columbia County Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Chairman Cliff Collins was honored for his agricultural advocacy during the recent Georgia Farm Bureau 4th District Annual Meeting in Madison.

The Appling resident received the Georgia Farm Bureau 4th District Young Farmers & Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award, which is given to recognize farmers and ranchers between the ages of 18 and 35 who earn  most of their income from something other than production agriculture.

For Collins, agriculture has always been more than a career — it is a way of life. His roots in agriculture run deep, having grown up working on his family farm and being actively involved in his local FFA chapter. Those early experiences helped shape his passion for agriculture and led him to a career as an agricultural educator. Today, Collins continues that mission as an Extension agent in Burke County.

Through his work with Extension, Collins provides education, resources, and hands-on assistance to farmers and others involved in agriculture across the county. He also takes his knowledge and passion to the airwaves through his ag talk radio program, helping share agricultural information with the community.

When he is not serving others through his extension work, Collins remains active on his family farm. He has also built an agricultural business of his own, starting a honey operation that now includes 50 hives..

CCFB, for which Jim Steed serves as president, was also recognized for increasing its membership and for its donations to the Georgia Foundation for Agriculture and the GFB ImPACt Fund.

Founded in 1937, the Georgia Farm Bureau Federation represents all Georgia Farmers and commodities grown in the state, has 158 county chapters. As a membership-driven, nongovernmental organization, GFB serves as the voice of Georgia farmers and rural Georgia by advocating for them on legislative issues and promoting Georgia commodities. Its volunteer members also actively participate in activities that promote agriculture awareness.

GFB membership is open to the public and offers a wide variety of benefits, including insurance and discounts for health services, travel and family entertainment. Enrollment in any of the member benefits is optional and not a requirement for membership.
