The Grand Kyiv Ballet will bring a classic ballet with a modern twist to the Miller Theatre on Oct. 23.
“Swan Lake: Symphony of Lights” is a “fresh interpretation of the timeless classic, where the traditions of classical ballet meet contemporary stage technology. Illuminated costumes created exclusively for the production and spectacular lighting effects bring the beloved story to life in an entirely new way,” according to a news release.
Originally created in 1876 by Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, “Swan Lake” was the first in his trilogy of ballets. The other two were “The Nutcracker” and “Sleeping Beauty.”
“Swan Lake” tells the tragic love story of Prince Siegfried, who falls in love with Odette, a princess who has been changed into a swan by an evil sorcerer named Baron Von Rothbart.

“Tchaikovsky’s iconic score opens the door to an entirely reimagined world: vivid light design, illuminated costumes, and world-class dancers from around the globe transform classical ballet into a mesmerizing visual experience. This is more than a performance – it’s an immersion into a story of love and magic, told through light, movement, and music. Each act unfolds like a living art installation, where timeless tradition meets bold contemporary design,” according to the Miller Theatre website.
The Grand Kyiv Ballet’s production is based on the choreography of Anatoliy Shekera and Valeriy Kovtun.
“The production reflects the artistry, freedom and creative vision of Ukrainian ballet and is performed by the company’s international cast of dancers,” the news release said.
“Swan Lake: Symphony of Lights” will be presented at 7: p.m. Friday. Tickets are $30.15 to $74.50. For tickets, go here.
