The Salvation Army of Augusta will open registration for its annual Angel Tree program at 9 a.m., Monday, Oct. 5.
Families seeking Christmas assistance may apply online at saangeltree.org. Registration is available on a first-come, first-served basis while space remains, according to a news release from the Salvation Army.
“Angel Tree helps relieve some of the pressure families may experience during the Christmas season,” said Maj. Amanda Raymer, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Augusta. “It is about more than the gifts under the tree. It reminds families that their community sees them, cares for them and wants them to experience the hope and joy of Christmas.”
Eligibility is determined by the applicant’s home ZIP code. Applicants can confirm their eligibility when registration opens at saangeltree.org. Applicants should be prepared to provide identification, proof of address, birth certificates for each child, and proof of income or government assistance.
Last year, area residents helped provide Christmas gifts for more than 1,200 local children through the Angel Tree program.
To support this year’s Angel Tree program, The Salvation Army is also seeking approximately 10,000 square feet of donated warehouse space from Nov. 23 through Dec. 21. The space will be used to receive, organize and distribute gifts for registered children.
Ideally, a local property owner or business would donate use of the space, with The Salvation Army covering utility costs during the requested period.
