In pictures: North Augusta wins first state title in Double OT

COLUMBIA – It took two overtime periods, but North Augusta finally won its first-ever SCHL AAAA state basketball championship Saturday at the Colonial Life Arena defeating South Pointe 64-56.

The game stayed close all night with the lead changing hands multiple times. Rock Hill’s South Pointe led 18-10 after the first quarter, but the Yellow Jackets came back to tie it at 23 going into the half. The Stallions led after the third by six. The Yellow Jackets charged back to even it up once again, forcing the overtime period.

Each team scored six in the first OT. The Stallions ran out of steam in the final OT.

This was the Yellow Jackets’ second state championship appearance. Last year, they lost to Lancaster 69-55. The team finished the season with 27-3 record.
