This January, The Salvation Army of Augusta is partnering with the Richmond County School System to host a community-wide winter clothing drive aimed at supporting individuals and families in need across the greater Augusta area.
Through this partnership, students, families and school staff are invited to donate new or gently used winter items such as coats, jackets, hats, scarves, mittens and gloves at participating Richmond County Schools. Community members may also drop off donations at any Salvation Army location, including the Center of Hope, the Kroc Center of Augusta and all Salvation Army Family Stores.
Donated items will help meet a critical need as colder temperatures increase the demand for warm clothing throughout the season.
“The Richmond County School System is proud to partner with The Salvation Army to support our community beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Talithia F. Newsome, Sand Hills GNETS Director for the Richmond County School System. “Our schools serve as gathering places for families, and this clothing drive provides an opportunity for students, staff, and families to come together in service while helping ensure our neighbors have the essentials they need during the winter months.”

The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope provides free clothing vouchers to individuals and families in need throughout the community. These vouchers are available to anyone seeking assistance—not just residents of the Center of Hope—and may be redeemed at the Center of Hope’s Clothing Closet or at any Salvation Army Family Store location. Individuals in need of winter clothing assistance may visit the Center of Hope to apply for a voucher.
“Access to warm clothing can make a significant difference for someone facing a difficult season,” said Maj. Jonathan Raymer, Area Commander for The Salvation Army of Augusta. “This partnership allows us to meet a real, immediate need while ensuring that individuals and families across our community can receive winter clothing with dignity and care.”
