About 400 children received either a bicycle or age-appropriate toys at the annual James Brown Family Foundation toy giveaway Dec. 22 at May Park.
While families waited their turn, children could meet with the superheroes or meet with Santa or the Grinch under the watchful eye of a poster of James Brown, dressed as Santa. The Godfather of Soul died on Christmas Day 2006, but he began a tradition of helping families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, which continues through the foundation.
