Walkers, runners and cyclists took part n PaceDay Oct. 4 to raise money for cancer research at the Georgia Cancer Center.

In its eighth year and sixth in-person event because of cancellations due to COVID and Hurricane Helene, Pace Day has raised more than $2.5 million and sponsored 39 community-funded, innovative cancer research projects t, according to a news release from PACELINE, an affiliate of the Medical College of Georgia Foundation.

Grants place “an emphasis on both early career faculty and high impact community research projects. This pipeline of innovative cancer research has already generated $12.5 million of prestigious ‘follow-on’ grants from National Institutes of Health (NIH)
bringing significant investment to Georgia’s only public cancer center, part of Augusta University and WellStar MCG Health. In addition, the NIH estimates the broader economic impact of these grants to be over $30 million for our region,” the release said.
