A new monument for the American Revolution was dedicated Saturday at the Edgefield Courthouse Square in Edgefield.
Revolutionary-era reenactors and a color guard took part in the ceremony and a group of school children helped in the monument’s unveiling.

Listed on the monument are the names of George Galphin, Lt. Col. John Purvis, Col. Leroy Hammond, Lt. Col. Samuel Hammond, Maj. Hugh Middleton, the Martin Family, Capt. John Ryan, Capt. Michael Watson, Capt. Arthur Simkinns, Capt. Jame Butler, Capt. Wiliams Butler and Capt. Richard Johnson.
The Edgefield County 250 Committee, the event sponsor, was created to celebrate and promote the role of South Carolina in the American Revolution.
