Book Bash is back.
The literacy-focused event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 7 at The HUB for Community Innovation.
“The mission of Book Bash is to provide personal summer reading libraries to underserved children throughout the Greater Augusta area and beyond. With a focus on educational engagement and free access to books, this event aims to inspire a lifelong passion for reading and help build a stronger, more connected community,” according to a news release.

“Literacy is the foundation of a thriving community. Book Bash is a celebration of stories, learning and togetherness—a chance for us to connect and grow through books,” said Cheryl Odom, Community Impact Specialist Program Manager at United Way of the CSRA, one of the event sponsors, in collaboration with Augusta University Harris Literacy Center, RISE Augusta and AmeriCorps VISTA.
Organizers hope to distribute 1,500 free book bags with five to 10 age-appropriate books for children.
Book bags will be given to children from infants to 17-year-olds.
In addition to the book bag giveaways, the event will feature free book stations, interactive games, crafts and literacy-based experiences, story times and appearances by Disney Princesses.
Area libraries are also ramping up their summer reading programs to help kids stay on track over the break. To read more on them, go here.
Book Bash sponsors include SRP Federal Credit Union and Wellstar MCG.
