The Augusta Jewish Museum and Jewish Community Center and Federation of Augusta will co-present a Yom HaShoah Holocaust Memorial Program on Tuesday, April 14 at 6:45 p.m. at Adas Yeshurun Synagogue, 935 Johns Rd.
The evening will honor the millions of lives lost during the Holocaust through memorials, music, and a special presentation by Robert Ratonyi, a speaker for the Georgia Commission on the Holocaust. His talk, “Childhood Interrupted: Holocaust Childhood – Wounds that Never Heal,” will reflect on the lasting impact of the Holocaust on children and survivors, according to a news release.
The community is invited to gather in remembrance, reflection, and education.
Yom HaShoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day, occurs on the 27th of the Hebrew month of Nisan. Shoah, which means “catastrophe” or “utter destruction” in Hebrew, refers to the atrocities that were committed against the Jewish people during World War II. This is a memorial day for those who died in the Shoah, according to reformjudaism.org.
