Spend Thanksgiving with a new friend

Shelter pets at Augusta Animal Services don’t want to spend the Thanksgiving holiday alone and with your help, hopefully, they won’t have to.

The shelter has cats and dogs that would love to cuddle on someone’s couch and maybe eat a bit of turkey too, according to a news releasee.

Dogs and cats can be picked up at Augusta Animal Services, 4164 Mack Lane, Augusta, from noon to 4 p.m. Nov. 23, 24 and 26, noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 25 and noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27. Hosts can return their guest pet from noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 2 or 3. Or the family can adopt it. .

If needed, the shelter will provide supplies for the dog or cat for the holiday.

“We hope that most pets will become long-term family members but if not, the information and photos obtained during their visit with the family will help the animal get adopted upon return to the shelter,” the release said.

“We ask that people wanting to participate bring any children and existing pets with them to the shelter so we can make sure they all get along. You do not have to reside in Richmond County to participate.”

This weeklong experience with one of our pets is the perfect opportunity

* for those with hectic schedules to try out a pet,

* to see if the kids will really take the dog for a walk and scoop poop,

* to spend some time relaxing and enjoying the companionship a dog/cat has to offer,

* or, see if a dog really does motivate you to exercise.
