Southern humorist to speak at Girl Scout fundraiser

Jane Jenkins Herlong, the 1979 Miss South Carolina turned Southern humorist, SiriusXM comedian and award-winning speaker, will headline the inaugural Grits and Girl Scouts fundraiser.

With a unique breakfast created by Augusta Technical College culinary students, Grits and Girl Scouts will be at 8 a.m. May 1 at Phinizy House and will benefit Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia, according to a news release.

Herlong, a Girl Scout alum, is the author of “Sweet Tea Secrets from the Deep-Fried South” as well as a recording artist.

“The spotlight and her audiences love her for her candid business and life lessons delivered with laughter, sweet tea wisdom and southern-fried humor,” according to her website.

“This event is more than just a delicious way to start the day—it is an opportunity to support local Girl Scout programming for girls in grades K-12. Contributions from Grits and Girl Scouts fund transformative experiences, including leadership development, community service projects, and outdoor adventures that give girls the confidence to be strong, courageous leaders,” according to the Girl Scouts’ news release.
