The Edgefield County Historical Society announced that the second edition of The Story of Edgefield has been published.
The book was authored by the Edgefield History Class which meets every Sunday afternoon to discuss topics related to the history of Edgefield County, according to a news release from the historical society.
This 142-page, full color, soft-back book includes substantial additions and updates from the original 2009 publication. It contains an introductory narrative history of Edgefield County, a thematic overview, a timeline of events in Edgefield history, a walking tour of downtown Edgefield, a driving tour of many sites in the county, biographical sketches of our 10 governors and other famous Edgefield residents, an essay on the Edgefield Tradition of Leadership and Suggested Readings of Edgefield History.
The publication of this edition was substantially aided by a $30,000 grant from the Porter Fleming Foundation of Augusta, the release said.
The Society will host its summer program at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Joanne T. Rainsford Discovery Center. Book will be available for purchase. Copies can be purchased by calling the society at (803) 637-2233. The price of the book is $20 plus $3 for mailing and handling for those who want to receive their copy by mail.
