Rivalries heat up at Christenberry Fieldhouse Jan. 14

Augusta University and the University of South Carolina Aiken squared off Jan. 14 as the Jaguars asked fans to show their spirit and paint Christenberry Fieldhouse blue.

The Lady Jaguars defeated the Lady Pacers 59-46, followed by the men dropping game to USC Aiken 75-71.

Nearly 2,000 fans were in attendance with many wearing blue for Wednesday’s special games.

The Lady Jaguar defense held the Lady Pacers to a 26% shooting percentage from the field.

Amari Jackson led Augusta with a double double with 16 points and 16 rebounds. Quinasia Abercrombie also had a double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Jaguars.

Augusta moved to 10-3 overall and 6-3 in the Peach Belt Conference with the win. The Lady Pacers fall to 4-12 overall and 1-7 in conference play.

Elias Pa`lsson led the Augusta men with a career game high 23 points on 8-for-19 shooting while McCaskill Rivers scored a career high 25 points for the Pacers.

The Jaguars would get down double digits early before cutting the Pacer lead four points at the half.

Augusta battled throughout the game, but USC Aiken continued to get the free-throw-line, shooting 33-35 from the charity stripe.

The Augusta men’s basketball team now move to 8-11 overall and 3-6 in the conference. The Pacers are now 8-8 on the season, including 3-5 in conference play.

Augusta Women’s basketball will host Livingston College on Friday, Jan 16, at 5:30 p.m. The men will travel to North Georgia next Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 7:30 p.m. The Pacers host Clayton State Saturday with the women’s game at 1:30 followed by the men’s game at 3:30 p.m.
