Richmond County announces top spellers

Forty-one Richmond County School System students showcased their spelling skills in the elementary and middle school spelling bee competitions Dec. 12, with top students advancing to the regional spelling bee on Feb. 28, 2026.

In the elementary competition, Rory O’Donnell, a Blythe Elementary School fourth grader, claimed first place after correctly defining the word “emporium” in the final vocabulary round. Runner-up Marleigh Sudduth is a Belair Elementary School fourth grader

O’Donnell will represent RCSS at the regional spelling bee.

In the middle school competition, Domani Hill, an eighth grader at Freedom Park K–8
School earned first place after correctly defining the word “omniscient” in the final vocabulary
round. Peter Bao, a John S. Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School sixth grader, secured second place. Both students will advance to the regional spelling bee.
