With the season’s juiciest tomatoes taking center stage, 13 area chefs brought their secret recipes and star ingredients to claim the title of best sandwich in the Who Makes the Best Tomato Sandwich in Augusta? contest at the Hub for Community Innovation July 20.

Judges Scot Seidl, executive and artistic director of the Augusta Players, Havird Usry, partner in Fat Man’s Hospitality Group, and Direka Gordon, private chef and caterer, determined that Obadiah Metz made the best tomato sandwich in Augusta followed by Cinney Patterson and Joseph Cordova.

Sponsored by Augusta Locally Grown, the contest was held in the Hub’s kitchen during the hours of the weekly indoor farmers market.
