Paine College’s men’s and women’s golf teams compete at NCCAA national championships

Paine College’s Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams are competing in the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) National Championship Oct. 21-23 under Interim Head Coach Andre Lacey and Assistant Coach Rashad Wilson.

The Paine College women’s golf team entered the NCCAA Championship, riding a wave of momentum with six event wins, including a victory at the 2024 Women in Golf National Championship, according to a news release.

The team features Ashley Michel and Helena Rios, both of whom earned All-American honors at a championship game last year.

On the first day of competition, Jada Mullinux had to withdraw after four holes due to an injury, dropping Paine to three athletes resulting in no team score being recorded.

At the end of the second round, Bethel University led the pack, but Grace College trailed Bethel by five strokes after a 27-under, 315 in the second round.

The Paine College men’s golf team has steadily built a reputation as a program on the rise. The Lion have dropped their team scoring average by an impressive six strokes and posted strong performances in key tournaments.

“I could not be prouder of our student-athletes. Their hard work and dedication have paid off, and competing in the NCCAA National Championship is a testament to their growth. Both teams are ready to show the world what Paine College Golf is all about,” said Lacey, in a news releasee.

After the second round, the men’s leader was Wayland Baptist University who shot a six-under, 282 team score. That score was 13 strokes ahead of the next best team score in the second round, and the Pioneers now sit alone in first place by 18 strokes.
