Pacers dominate Jags on the court on Jan. 12

AIKEN – USC Aiken snapped Augusta University’s men’s basketball team’s nine-game win streak 84-49 Sunday at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.

The Jaguars never led in the contest as they dropped their first game in over a month.

John St. Germain III led Augusta with 14 points while Demitri Gardner tallied 13. They were the only players in double figures. Maximillian Amadasun led AU with eight rebounds.

Augusta shot just 37% from the field and dug themselves an early 14-4 deficit and were never able to recover. With just over seven minutes left in the half, a TJ Baker jumper cut the lead to six points, but that was as close as they would get. They would finish the half down 40-23 to the Pacers.

Jalen McCoy’s game-high 18 points and six rebounds led the Pacers. Davion Cunningham netted 15 points while Rhyjon Blackwell totaled 11 points. Mason Grant came off the bench to hit for 10 points while Kaleb Siler contributed nine markers. Siler also had a pair of blocks and steals.

The Jags fall to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Pacers are 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Augusta returns home to Christenberry Fieldhouse Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they take on Flagler College at 7:30 p.m. It is Stuff the Stadium night as fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed animal and asked to throw it on the court after AU makes their first basket of the game. The Pacers return to action Wednesday, Jan. 15, when they host Georgia Southwestern at 7:30 p.m.
