Nursing sorority celebrates 49th chartering anniversary

Phi Chi Chapter, Incorporated of Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc. celebrated its 49th Chartering Anniversary on May 23 at the Kroc Center with 22 sorors in attendance to include three charter members.

This event was geared toward recognition of all Charter Members of this chapter, the three charter members in attendance were: Clyde Coppin; Margaret Beard and Rosa Clemons. This program also paid tribute to the deceased members and homage to those who were chosen to receive Chapter Awards of the year to include: Family of the Year -Sandra Jones’ family; Committee of the Year – Hospitality, Karen Ryans is the Chairperson; Humanitarian – Marcia Lowe; Unsung Hero – Leola Mims;  Lorraine Stephens received the MaeDella Perry Nurse of the Year Award and Bonita Dickerson earned the Neophyte Excellence Award. Four sorors were awarded certificates for Years of Service to include Diedra Henley, Joi Elam and Carmen Logan with 5 years each and Kay Roland with 20 years of continuous membership.

The Charter Members were allowed time to express their memories and experiences as members of this sorority and as nurses during these 49 years, and they shared several great achievements and accomplishments that involved strength, education, perseverance and bravery to succeed.

Chi Eta Phi Sorority, Inc is comprised of Registered Professional Nurses and student nurses in accredited schools of nursing. It was established on Oct. 16, 1932, and has chapters located throughout the U.S. including the USVI. It continues to provide Service for Humanity as its motto implies. Phi Chi Chapter is the local chapter, and it carries out the motto in the CSRA. Lorraine Stephens in the President and Sarah Glover is Chair of P.R.
