North Augusta’s Tour of Homes returns for its 37th year Dec. 5-6

The popular North Augusta Christmas Tour of Homes returns for its 37th year Dec. 5-6.

The event, which raises money for scholarships for North Augusta High School seniors, features six stops including five homes plus the Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta.

The tour will be from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, according to a news release.

The home of Bradley and April Henry King on Georgia Avenue was built in 1938. The Kings, who are very passionate about conserving and protecting old buildings, purchased the home in 2019 and have renovated it themselves for the past six years.

The Georgia Avenue home of Mike Hitchler is known as the  McDaniel-Anderson house and is part of the Georgia Avenue-Butler Avenue Historic District, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. Hitchler has decorated this historic home with unique antiques he discovered and purchased during his travels, the news release said.

The home of John-Michael and Christina Brady is located in The Rapids

After falling in love with the Overlook section of the Rapids, the Bradys decided that a custom-built home was the only way to make a house fit their lifestyle. Blending thoughtfully curated touches with playful décor, this striking modern farmhouse offers a warm, inviting atmosphere.

William and Susan Rowland also live in The Rapids.

Living on the Savannah River with its beautiful views inspired the Rowlands to purchase a river lot. Working with a homebuilder, they designed and built an open floor home plan that incorporated their favorite aspects of life on the Savannah.

Kathryn Martin’s current abode is second Hammond’s Ferry dwelling that Martin has called home. The house is thought to have been designed on the premise of an old funeral home in North Augusta, the news release said. Throughout the home are hints of nostalgia, history, medicine, law and family.

The Arts and Heritage Center of North Augusta at 100 Georgia Avenue has main and balcony galleries that feature rotating art exhibits, and a third space is home to an interactive history exhibit called “Rivers, Rails, & Roads.”  The centerpiece in the rotunda is a six-foot round cityscape model of North Augusta, circa 1910.

The North Augusta Beta Sigma Phi chapter started the tour in 1988. Most of the proceeds from the Tour of Homes to fund the scholarships to North Augusta High School students with a contribution also to the Arts and Heritage Center. Since beginning the tour, Xi Beta Gamma has given approximately $220,000 to high school graduates to further their education.

Advanced tickets may be purchased until 2 p.m. on Dec.5. Everyone taking the tour, including children in arms, must have a ticket. Advanced tickets are available at the Arts and Heritage Center, CommuniGraphics, and Parks Pharmacy in North Augusta; Consign Design in Martinez; and Plum Pudding in Aiken. Tickets purchased in advance at these businesses are $25. Tour tickets may also be purchased online until Dec. 3 at natourofhomes.org.

Online tickets are $28, which includes the $3 convenience fee. Tickets may be purchased on tour days for $30 at any tour stop. Cash or check is required for ticket purchases at businesses and tour stops.
