News You Can Use: Road and lane closures around the area beginning Jan. 6, 2025

Road construction will bring lane and road closures that could affect area residents’ commutes in the coming weeks.

Starting Tuesday, Jan. 7, road construction will begin on Broad Street between 13th and 15th Streets, according to the Augusta-Richmond County Government Facebook page.

“The number of travel lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction.  Access to each property will be maintained during construction.  Expect delays traveling through this area for the next several months.  Drivers are encouraged to utilize alternate routes, if possible,” the post said.

In Aiken County, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will temporarily close and detour traffic on part of Atomic Road, according to news release.

“Please note that both the northbound and southbound sides of Atomic Road will be closed at the bridge sites during construction. Atomic Road will be open to local traffic only except at the bridge sites,” the release said.

The closures are expected to last until August, the release said.

In Columbia County, there will be a temporary road closure on Jan. 7, at 416 Belglade Road due to a utility repair, according to news release from Columbia County.  No through traffic will be allowed at this location. A detour route will be on Old Belair Road, Crawford Mill Lane and East Creek Mill Court.
