NORTH AUGUSTA – The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) had a three-game home winning streak snapped on June 15 at SRP Park losing to the Carolina Mudcats 7-2.

Augusta (29-31) surrendered a season high 14 hits in the loss, while the Mudcats (31-28) kept their postseason hopes alive with the win, according to a news release from the Augusta GreenJackets.

Carolina started the game in interesting fashion, earning a walk before a swinging strikeout on a wild pitch put runners aboard on first and third. Nick Clarno and Ambioris Tavarez used some trickery to catch the lead runner trying to steal home to keep the score at 0-0 after one. The goose eggs would remain on the board until the top of the third, when Carolina scored on a balk and a two-run single. The Mudcats doubled their advantage with another three run frame in the fourth, taking a 6-0 lead into the middle innings.

Estarlin Rodriguez entered in relief of GreenJackets starter Jhancarlos Lara, pitching two scoreless innings. At the plate, Augusta went hitless against Carolina’s starter Patricio Aquino, who departed the game with one out in the bottom of the fifth. After walking the second batter of the game, Aquino did not allow a baserunner, striking out seven. Augusta worked two walks against his replacement, Jeison Pena, but hit into a double play to end the frame.

Augusta was hitless until Ethan Workinger reached on a single to lead off the seventh. Jeremy Celedonio followed him up with his fourth home run in three days, his 11th blast on the year, putting Augusta on the board and making it 6-2. Carolina tacked on the extra point in the top of the eighth to push it to 7-2, where the score would remain until the final out. Celedonio’s 11th home run tied him for the team lead with Workinger. Kadon Morton, last year’s season leader for Augusta, registered 12.

The GreenJackets remain at home this coming week to take on the Carolina Mudcats (Milwaukee Brewers), including the Augusta Pimento Cheese game on Saturday and Father’s Day on Sunday! For tickets and information, click here: https://www.milb.com/augusta/fans/gj-homestand-preview.
